2021 Holidays: Why teardrop caravans may be the answer
Getting on the new road out of lockdown.
As Boris Johnson laid his government's roadmap out of lockdown, many of us scrambled to consider the implications of this on a much-needed break later this year. Of course, despite the vaccine rollout and seemingly bright outlook for the year ahead, there is still uncertainty and a reinforced message that the targets are subject to circumstance. So what’s the best option?
Here are several ways we’re promoting teardrop caravans as an option for your 2021 holiday.
Foreign holiday uncertainty
We are not relying on other countries. Of course, the question of how different countries are dealing with the pandemic is a little out of our ballpark. But the fact is holidays abroad will of course be higher risk than domestic travel as there are so many more factors that could be affected, from flights to foreign Covid policy to quarantines.
This was also reflected in the UK’s reaction to the first lockdown. For example, in July 2020 the search term ‘UK staycation’ had increased by around 400% from 12 months prior. There are simply fewer factors to rely on with a domestic break, and uncertainty is something most of us are pretty fed up with.
A hitch and go holiday maybe even lower the risk
There is more security with a ‘hitch up and go’ trip than alternative domestic holidays. If the country is plunged back into a lockdown before or during your travels then there isn’t much you can do about that.
However, where some hotels and other communal accommodation - even bed and breakfasts - are at the mercy of specific geographical lockdowns, with teardrop caravans there is always the option to simply choose a safer area. In addition, off-grid camping in locations that are simply out of the question for larger caravans and campervans become a possibility with the agile teardrops. This limits the interactions with others and subsequent risks. This brings us to our next point.
Benefits vs A Campervan
There are distinct advantages of a teardrop caravan vs a campervan or other caravans. There is obviously no engine to worry about, limited servicing in comparison and the agility to enjoy day trips easily once parked up.
Of course, the price is another huge draw in comparison to alternative mobile options. Not only is this appealing for those who want exactly what the teardrop offers, but it’s less of a commitment for the pre-covid frequent fliers who may be less certain of their holiday plans in future years.

The Teardrop Experience
Teardrop caravans are very easy to tow, they are lightweight and all are braked, so towable by most vehicles. A lot of people simply don’t want to tow a big caravan around.
Once parked up, you can enjoy the combined benefits of being in the thick of nature with the comforts of indoor accommodation. For example, a kitchen, heating and enough room for a large mattress - not including the vast area of possible accessories - combine some of the benefits of camping and indoor accommodation.
Closing thought
For some, booking a flight to somewhere hot and lounging by the pool may be the only answer - that sounds pretty good to us, too. But for many, we’re craving a little more certainty this year, as well as the option to invest in future trips.
The current lead times on a new Hero Camper is 2-3 months. For Procamp this is around 6 months so plan ahead. If you’re looking for a drive away Camper then check out our stock models.
